Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases are normally known as STD. Initially, this ailment was called ‘venereal diseases’, which spread through the personal contact. Anyone can be affected with sexually transmitted diseases, irrespective of one’s age or gender. The problem of STD is more frequent among the teenagers. The patients, who are infected with sexually transmitted diseases, feel embarrassed, but in reality this ailment is a very grave physical trouble. [1] Under extreme circumstances the patient may suffer from infertility or in the case of AIDS, even the death knocks at the door. In the case of sexually transmitted diseases, prevention is always better than cure.

Causes of Sexually Transmitted Diseases:

Generally, people are of the view that the chief cause of any of the sexually transmitted diseases is having an unprotected sexual intercourse. Secondly, they assume that STDs can’t take place if they indulge in oral or anal sex. But both of the above mentioned causes present a partial picture of this chronic disease. STDs such as herpes and genital warts may ensue through skin to skin contact. If one of the partners is suffering from any infection, the second one may get it from any tiny cut either in the mouth or in the anus. It spreads very easily as in most of the cases even the sufferer doesn’t know that he is infected; consequently he passes the bacteria to his sex partner unknowingly.

  • If an individual starts having sex in an early age, then the possibility to get infected with sexually transmitted diseases becomes more.
  • People who keep many sexual partners are more prone to get infected with STDs. Sexual intercourse is not mandatory in this condition because any sort of oral sex can spread this disease.
  • While indulging in sexual activity spermicides or diaphragms may prevent pregnancy, but condoms, if used fittingly are the only effective source that reduces the chances of sexually transmitted diseases to a very large extent.
  • People may get infected with STDs if two or more partners share sex toys without washing the toys appropriately. [1]
